I registered, but I'm having trouble getting on to the forum.

Welcome to Hogwarts does require that you activate your account before you are able to log in successfully. The account activation is sent via e-mail to the same e-mail account you used to register. You must activate it by clicking on or copy/pasting the link provided to you. If you are still having trouble logging on, double check to make sure that your username and password are the same as when you registered. If you still cannot log on, please inform an administrator and they will assist you.

When can I start role-playing?

In the past, the answer to this was, 'Immediately.' However, due to the increasing number of mary-sue and gary-stu characters and the lack of written profiles, we now require that all members post a profile and have it approved by a staff member before they may begin role-playing. Also, if your profile is ever moved to the pending or denied section, you may not role play until the issue has been settled.

How many canon characters may I apply for?

When you first begin at Welcome to Hogwarts, we ask that you take no more than two canon characters. If/when you become interested in another, please contact an administrator to discuss your possibilities further.

How many accounts is acceptable to have?

There is no character limit on Welcome to Hogwarts. However, be realistic. Only create as many as you can reasonably handle. The staff reserves the right to prevent you from creating more characters if you have not proven activity with the characters you already have or if you have just started out and have decided to be ambitious enough to try to role play twenty characters. We appreciate the dedication, but we would rather you be active with one character than only a little active with twenty.

Can I use the same e-mail to register multiple accounts?

Do I have to use the same celebrity featured in the movies for my character here on the forum?

No. You may use whatever celebrity play-by you feel comfortable with unless, of course, that play-by is already being used. Check the face claim lists to see who is unavailable.

Where do I go to get my character sorted?

Short/Easy Way: There is a quick link on the right side menu that will take you directly to the Sorting Quiz.

Long/Easy Way: Navigate down to the Great Hall in the Hogwarts Category of the board. Once there, click on the Sorting Quiz thread.

Do I have to play a student?

No. If you are interested in playing an adult character, please inform an administrator so that we may properly categorize you.

Where do I go to have my character apply for a profession?

Go to the Ministry of Magic category of the forum and click on the Daily Prophet. Within there is a thread expecially dedicated to applying for jobs.

Where do I go to apply for membership for the Order of the Phoenix?

To apply for a position in the Order of the Phoenix, contact via private message Sirius or Persephone (Perse), James Potter, Remus Lupin, Lily Evans, or Oliver Wood.

I've been banned! What do I do?

That all depends.

For the most part, we at Welcome to Hogwarts do not permaban members (permanently kick you off of the forum). If we do ban a member, we usually give them a reason as to why this has happened and a duration for how long the ban may last. Please do not contact an administrator before your ban is up to have it lifted. Understand that it takes more than one staff member to agree to lift a ban before it can occur. Once the duration of your ban is ended, you may begin role-playing again. If you are permanently banned, you may not role play at Welcome to Hogwarts.

What year does your plot take place?

We can see how this might be confusing.

Our plot takes place after the events of the second war. For this reason, you have events like Sirius Black, Bellatrix Lestrange, James Potter et al returning after having been killed. So reasonably, one would assume that if they've been back for five years, our plot takes place in the year 2003, when Harry is twenty-two years old. However, our Harry Potter is currently a thirteen year old third year. How does that work? Well, this is precisely why we refer to our forum as a Beyond the Veil.

A simple explanation is that most of the events of all seven books did take place in a very loose sense. For example, Lucan and Tonks still were killed in battle, Sirius still fell through the veil, Voldemort was killed, etc. However, what the staff figured is that rather than role play a new generation of original characters, we would give members the opportunity to take canon characters and give them another round at Hogwarts. So basically, we took the trio, and pushed them back in time. Of course, this changes certain events of the book (ie: Fred was not murdered in our game since he was not technically a seventh year).

So when it comes to placing a year that our plot takes place, it is essentially impossible, but technically it would be 2003, if you absolutely must have an answer.
