Persephone has had a crush on Remus Lupin since she was a second year in Hogwarts. She has never told him this, but this made it difficult for her when they were prefects together.

PERSONALITY:
“The battleline between good and evil runs through the heart of every man.”
--Alexander Solzhenitsyn
She is a Death Eater? Enough said, right? To be not only a member of the largest criminal gathering of magical people since the time of Gellert Grindewald, but the actual right hand of the Dark Lord, the ever feared and ever coveted position as his Agent of Death, one would think that you would have to possess heartless cruelty, the ability to commit the most egregious of crimes without even batting an eyelash, and a deep set hatred for all things mudblood whether it be mudbloods themselves or sympathizers to their cause.
It is true that Persephone has had to adopt certain undesirable traits to her ever growing repertoire of characteristics, but that’s just the way her world works. You must be hard, cold, and callous if you are to survive in this world as a Death Eater. You must be ruthless at times, hungry for power, willing to subject oneself to dangerous and oft times hopeless scenarios in order to gain the respect of the one who could advance your position. And for one as ambitious as Persephone Silverton, she has forced herself into many potentially fatal situations all to gain the notice of Lord Voldemort. Some would call this a show of fearlessness… and while Persephone would love to have everybody believe this, it is quite far from the truth.
What is the truth? Well, it’s hard to say. Persephone has two sides: One she presents to the world, and a deeper, more complex side that she hides from everybody. The side that everybody sees is the strong, powerful witch who would do anything to get to the top and risk her life to fight for her cause. She is a pure-blood elitist, raised with the very worst of them. Bred from birth to be a merciless killer, to hate those who were different, and to attack those who oppose her. She was a Slytherin through and through. Talented from an early age, she took great pride in being the very best that she could be. Quick to anger, hungry to exact revenge, she never took well to being outshined. The spotlight belonged to her.
Ambition is one of her more notable qualities. She defines it as a hunger, an obsession for power. She does not like being eclipsed by others. The way she looks at life is like a climber would look at a mountain. Her philosophy is to keep climbing, keep going up, push people out of your way, and whenever your reach a block, carve foot holds for yourself so that when you reach the end of the climb, you’re the one standing at the top looking down on everybody else.
But the other side of Persephone lives in constant opposition to her outward appearance. The truth behind her ambition is actually a sad tale. Her desire, or rather, her need to join the Death Eater cause was purely to gain the approval of her adoptive parents. Grateful that she was to have been adopted, the fact of the matter was that Persephone was not the daughter they always wanted, but rather a political ploy for Stephan to look better at the Ministry. She spent much of her youth trying to make them proud, even if it meant adopting principles she didn’t exactly agree with. It is perhaps this upbringing that filled her with her tons of insecurities. Never had they told her she was beautiful, intelligent, or particularly worth anything. She was simply a Death Eater because they expected her to be and nothing more. That is why she is constantly trying to prove herself.
Beneath it all, she is not like the other Death Eaters. She abhors violence for violence’s sake. She hates using the families of those she’s opposed to against them, and believes there is no honor in attacking children. She is willing to fight and kill for the sake of the war and the beliefs that she was raised with, but more and more, she questions the morality of it all. What really sets her apart is her compassion. She is a very empathetic person who sympathizes a little too much with those she sees suffering. Though she strongly believes that being evil is merely a point of view, she is finding it more and more difficult to justify the actions of those around her.

HISTORY:
She was born Chloesandra Nefertiri to a wealthy magical family in Alexandria, Egypt. Her mother was a descendant from a very long line of ancient nobility, and while it meant nothing today, they still threw that fact around to convey an air of superiority over the other magical families in Egypt. They took pride in being able to give their children luxuries that others could not have, so for the first four years of her life, she was a relatively spoiled child. Despite the potential to have been a part of an uncaring family, her parents loved all of their children, Persephone and her older brother Helios and her baby sister, Gabrielle. However, she remembers none of this. When she was five years old, the city was raided by a rebel faction warring against the Egyptian Minister of Magic. The family was forced to flee the burning debris that was once their house, but in the chaos and confusion, Persephone and Gabrielle were separated and taken by the rebel faction to be sold off. As they were loaded into trucks, they were all obliviated. Luckily, the truck they were being delivered in was intercepted by a British WHM unit, and the two girls were sent to an orphanage in England.
They called her Penelope at the orphanage for, when asked, it was the closest thing to her name that she could remember. At first, she was bullied by the older kids, but it didn’t take long for ‘Penelope’ to start bullying right back. Eventually, she became the king of the castle, so to speak. Children at the orphanage either joined her little gang or they were tortured by them, and even if she knew it was wrong, hell… it was just fun. The one person who didn’t join her gang that was immune from her antics was her baby sister. Of course, they told them that they were sisters, but there was only hints of memories that tied them together. Regardless, it was enough for ‘Penelope’ to become fiercely protective over Breanne (the name that they tagged her with). Yet, despite that protectiveness, ‘Penelope’ and ‘Breanne’ did develop a rivalry that would continue into their adult lives.
When she was eight, she was finally adopted by the Silvertons. They named her Raina, but she never really liked it all that much. Assured that she was a pure-blood by those who they adopted from, her parents set about to ensure that their daughter would become the sort of child who would not embarrass them. That is to say, they began filling her with notions of pure blood elitism – the belief that this privilege of magic did not belong to those who were not from a pure magical heritage. Impressed with her talent and with what this could mean if she should grow to represent them well, they sent for some of the best tutors to prep her for Hogwarts.
Once there, she was sorted into Slytherin house (even though the Sorting Hat had originally claimed Ravenclaw was right for her). She did well in school, impressed the right teachers, and even joined the Quidditch team in her third year. Still… It was around then that things became a bit complicated. She had her first run in with a group that would later dub themselves the Marauders, not to mention… That was the year that her sister, who had been adopted herself, began attending Hogwarts. It was there that the rivalry deepened. The protectiveness wore off when “Raina” saw that her more talented sister was more the capable of defending herself. It was replaced by jealousy. The teachers all liked her better, she was getting more friends, and was generally more likable. It didn’t help matters that when “Raina” was a sixth year, her sister began to date Sirius Black. On the bright side, this made the Slytherins hate her, and they all came back to “Raina” and together, they all went about making her sister’s life hell.
At Hogwarts, she had become prefect and eventually Head Girl. But once she was out, it was apparent that there was going to be a war. Choosing sides was never an issue. Her parents made it clear what side she was expected to fight on. What surprised her was when her sister joined their cause two years later. Voldemort often assigned them together, and the rivalry was put on hold. Instead, they had to operate as a team and actually did very well together. For the first time in her life, “Raina” felt like she really had a family. But that all changed when her sister jumped ship over to the Order of the Phoenix and became a blood-traitor – marked for death. Many opportunities came when the sisters were forced to duel, but neither could take the final blow regardless of who won (more often than not, it was Persephone at the right end of the wand who would have to show mercy to her sister).
Feeling like she was being stifle in England, her parents and the Dark Lord saw fit to send Persephone to Bulgaria to be trained by some of the best Dark Wizard and Witch professors. She accepted a fellowship to teach Arithmancy and Divination at Durmstrang Academy and stayed there for nearly a decade, recruiting from there. While there, she discovered that both of her adoptive parents were killed in a Death Eater raid by some aurors, and was surprised to find that of all of her emotions, she actually felt free. But, the more shocking letter was the one from a man named Vandros Nefertiri who claimed to be her real father.
Leaving her fellowship early, she returned to London to reunite with her sister, and together they met their real mother and father. Gaps in their memory were beginning to be filled with stories and pictures, and against Persephone’s will, she formed a connection with them and her sister. They returned home with an understanding of one another and the resolution that no matter what happened, they would night fight against each other.
The rest of her years were spent as a Death Eater and part time worker at Borgin and Burkes. She inherited her family’s fortune and lived in her father’s mansion for a time, but opted to go a more humble route and buy herself a small cottage in the country. After a long period of service, she was finally given the promotion that she so desired – She was named the Agent of Death, the right hand of Voldemort. But this was bittersweet. Though she worked so hard to get what she wanted, it would not be long before a Death Eater moved against her sister, succeeding in her attack. Gabrielle Black was poisoned, leaving behind her husband, Sirius, and their small child, Lilianna.
Currently, Persephone Silverton has acquired the position that her sister has left behind. She now teaches at Hogwarts as the Arithmancy professor and also serves as the Head of Slytherin House. What happens from here is uncertain… even to her…
