They tend to work in tandem with law enforcers.

Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures (RCMC)
***It takes a pretty hard core person to work with dragons or blast-ended skrewts everyday. But there is more to this exceptionally long named department than just working with cool animals. Responsible for maintaining good relationship with the Goblins and the Centaurs, not to mention the strides they've taken for werewolf and vampire rights, these people see to it that nobody abuses the rights of magical creatures anywhere.
======
***The Beast division of the RCMC is looking for entry level tamers to train for the sometimes harrowing task of regulating, rounding up, and care of illegal and/or dangerous magical creatures. They not only personally care for magical creatures but make sure that none are bred without the consent of the Ministry of Magic.
***The Being and Spirit Division of the RCMC is looking for sensitive and daring people to regulate and control creatures not necessarily of this world. Poltergeists, ghouls, and not so friendly spirits fall under this area of expertise.
***Goblin and Centaur Liason Offices are looking for individuals interested in the relationship between wizards, witches, and other magical creatures. Includes but is not limited to Goblins, Centaurs, Werewolves, and Vampires.
