If you have decided to test out of a certain year(s), you must keep this in mind: You have to take every test for each year you plan on skipping, not just one of them. For example, if you want to be a fifth year, you must take year 1, 2, 3, and 4 exams. If you want to be a seventh year, you must take 1-6. If you want to be an adult, you must take 1-7. They are not designed to take too much of your time, and most of it is comprised of trivia. The reason year 5 and 7 are given twelve questions as opposed to ten is that we can award you up to twelve owls or newts.
ADDENDUM: If you have multiple characters, you do not need to retake the exams to move them up. The only thing you'd have to possibly do, granted your new characters are in a year higher than your previous characters, is take the exams you have not yet taken. Don't waste your time taking exams you've already taken.
Good luck with your testing!
