"What happened!?" Pomfrey asked, running from her chambers.
"He was hit by the Whomping Willow," Persephone answered, setting the stretcher down on one of the beds and then vanishing it. "I'm not certain how badly he's injured, but I brought him up here as soon as I could."
"Merlin! What was he doing by the Whomping Willow?"
Persephone turned around to glare at Ron and Hermione. "I'm not certain, but I could hazard a guess."
"Did you administer treatment?" Pomfrey asked, quickly grabbing a potion from a nearby cabinet. "Of any kind?"
"I did not, but I do believe I heard Miss Granger perform an episkey on him." She glanced back down at Harry for a moment before reaching up for the curtain and yanking it closed to give Pomfrey her privacy to treat Harry.
Swiftly, she rounded on Ron and Hermione, stepping up to them with anger clear in her eyes. "I should have you both expelled. I could not even begin to count the number of school rules the three of you broke. And if that wasn't bad enough, you knowingly endangered your own lives. What would have happened if nobody had seen you? If you had all been hurt? Unfortunately, somebody was hurt. And when Lily Potter and Professor Black arrive, you two will have the honor of explaining why you allowed such idiocy."

Bollix
Of all the people to find them it had to be Professor Silverton.
We're doomed
Ron hung his head as the head of Slytherin implied Harry's injuries were his and Hermione's fault. Come on, it's not they hadn't tried to stop him... Harry just has this way of drawing you to his cause, even if it is down right stupid. Besides, Harry is his best friend, Ron couldn't just let him go walk into danger alone like that.
However these excuses meant nothing. Ron still had to come up with a plausible excuse to explain why they had sneaked out like that. After all, Silverton was a known death eater, even if her loyalties were a bit tried at the moment due to the death of her sister.
As she whirled around and started her assault of guilt, Ron frantically racked his brains to come up with an excuse to save the day... Unfortunately all he came up with was the not very helpful image of Malfoy taking a pie to the face. Since that thought was best enjoyed in the privacy of his own head, Ron promptly closed his mouth and looked to Hermione. That giant think tank of hers had better work overtime or things were going to get pretty hairy, very quickly.

They couldn't always get lucky, and right now they were very unlucky, sure they didn't go off and get killed but they might as well wave Hogwarts goodbye. Hermione was muted the whole way, her mind half numb with relief and half winded away with horror, like a tree striped of its leaves and she felt empty. Then to top the icing of the cake, it was the Head of Slytherin, a known Death Eater, to find them!
Hermione looked up to notice Ron's hopeless stare and she flinched under Persephone's glare. What should she say? She opened her mouth, a half sound escaped feebly before she closed it again, swallowing and squeaking out, "We- we just wanted to help Harry." They could not lie, apparently Persephone somehow knew their plan, probably Hermina or Claire, but Hermione was too torn to care right then, "Is Harry going to be okay?"

Her expression softened at Hermione's words. Help Harry? Why would they also go against the basest instinct to survive for a man that was not even their own father? Was it so that Voldemort was right all along? Friendship made one weak and stupid. But was that a weakness? Perhaps if you looked at it from the perspective of an outsider, but for Harry... For Harry the desire his friends had to help him was a strength. When reciprocated, that too would become a strength for them. Therefore... was love really a weakness or was it a means to secure a steadier foundation of one's self and safety?
"Miss Granger," she said, her voice less venomous now. "Perhaps if it is your desire to help Harry, your efforts and wishes would be better served by mere acts of comfort. Even more appropriate would have been to help him understand that everything that can be done is being done and that endangering his own life only makes it harder for those working tirelessly to rescue James Potter to focus on the task most important to him. Next time you feel compelled to help Harry, think of every consequence and weigh whether or not it is necessary to risk or sacrifice his or your own life."
She turned and glanced at the curtain. "Miss Granger, Mister Weasley... take a seat," she said, motioning to the chairs along the wall. "Madame Pomfrey is the best at what she does. Thankfully, somebody had the sense to alert Professor Snape and I so that we could bring him here for proper attention. From what I've been led to understand, Harry has survived the unsurvivable, so while I may not have the authority to tell you that he will be all right, it is my belief, Miss Granger, that he will be."

Persephone's glaring softened somewhat; her face almost seemed amused or even slightly perplexed, almost as if what Hermione said was beyond her understanding. When she spoke, her voice was almost comforting, but what she said was more of a lecture than anything, and it made Hermione feel even guiltier though inwardly, she was also shaking her head. Persephone could not understand, once Harry set his mind and heart to something, no amount of wordy comfort did him good till he saw something about it with his own eyes and ears. And, almost smiling to herself, she knew Harry was never really one to list out on a good and bad list the consequences of his actions. But that just made Harry, well, Harry.
Instead, Hermione nervously nodded, she hadn't forgotten that word was sent out for Sirius and Harry's mom, and that would be even worse to face than some scowling Death Eater, even if she was Persephone. She scooted over to the indicated seats, collapsing into the chair and realised how wobbly her legs felt, like as if they where hexed by a Jelly Leg Jinx. Of course Harry will be alright, it was Madame Pomfrey who was taking care of him. Looking down, Hermione twisted her hands in her lap, intertwining and untwining, occasionally forcing them still before they started twitching again. She tried to give a comforting smile to Ron as she knew she needed one herself, but it got stuck somewhere along the way and instead feebly turned the corners of her mouth up like some morbid clown, before returning to nervous line.

Sirius practically bolted into the room. At first, he saw nobody and nothing except for that curtain that separated him from his godson. Yanking it open, he saw the startled face of Madame Pomfrey as she was applying a potion to Harry's skin. Falling next to the bed, he took Harry's hand and let his eyes travel over him, taking in the extent of his injuries. Snape had said it was bad, but Sirius had been hoping for something less severe. "Harry," he whispered, his voice a mixture of sadness and anger.
He was mostly mad at himself. James as gone and Lily couldn't be around her son constantly to look after him. That responsibility fell onto Sirius. He failed. Looking back up at Pomfrey, he asked, "What... What can you tell me?"
"He's going to be fine, Professor, but he'll probably have to stay here a few more days. A week at the most. I'll be regrowing some of his bones tonight and I still have to set his shoulder. The potion I'm about to give him now will take care of his internal bleeding. Some of his organs have suffered trauma, but nothing I can't set right. It's good Professor Silverton brought him in when she did or he'd have been in serious trouble. I can't imagine how he would have survived with such injuries much longer. He's lucky his spine didn't break judging by the type of blunt force that must have been necessary to cause such damage to him."
He nodded slowly and then turned around to look at Persephone. He did not miss the two students sitting near her... And his anger flared back up. Walking up to them, his hands crossed at his chest so they wouldn't see how badly his hands were shaking, he said in a harsh voice, "Which one of you would care to explain how this happened?"

Lupin would have preferred to have found Silverton gone by the time he had arrived, but he expected no one had heard his pray. He'd ignore her for now as he spoke with Madam Pomfrey quietly before taking his place on the other side of Harry. This is the worst he'd ever seen the lad and he was just as angry as Sirius, but they should have expected this from Harry. They knew him well enough to know he'd pull something like this. The three of them. Touching Harry's head gently, he turned and pulled the curtain close before joining Sirius' side. "It wouldn't be the first time, Sirius." Lupin said, glaring at the other two. "Wait." Looking toward Silverton, "Thank you for bringing him, but you may leave now." He wouldn't have them talking with her present -not until he trusted her fully and that was as close to happening as the healers finding a cure for his problem.

Snape entered, not nearly at the run that the two men before him had been in. When his eyes fell upon Potter, he sneered and rolled his eyes. Typical Potter... Always trying to play the hero. At least this time he paid the price for thinking he was entitled to different rules than the 'normal' folk. Even so, it did look pretty bad and though his debt to Dumbledore had been fulfilled, part of him, perhaps it was the part that still cared for Lily, felt as though he'd let somebody down by not protecting him better. Oh well. Spilled milk shouldn't be cried over.
He looked up. He really shouldn't have been surprised by Remus' callous command to Persephone, but he knew it would at least be interesting to see how she received it. "Would it not be wise, professor, to have her remain so she can relate what she heard from the students who alerted her and what she saw when she happened upon the scene?"

Persephone froze when she saw Sirius run into the room. She was not afraid of Sirius Black by any means, but it was just a natural reaction to seeing one who had been an enemy for so long... and in many ways, was still an enemy. Remus came next, but she did her best to ignore him just as she always did. She had to admit, it tore at some place in her chest (surely not her heart) when she saw Sirius and Remus over Harry, showing true compassion and concern. They weren't even his parents and yet... Had her parents ever done that for her?
Remus' sharp command was not at all diminished by the weak show of gratuity he gave only a second before. "As much as I don't think this is the appropriate time to argue professor, I would like to point out that as I am the one who helped Potter, and as I am the one who caught these students in direct violation of school rules, and as I am the Head of Slytherin, I am perfectly within my rights to remain until there has been a resolution. That said, and at the risk of you taking offense, last time I checked, I only answered to one person in this room... And I could be mistaken, Professor... Or Minister... Whichever you'd prefer to be called, but you aren't wearing your Deputy Headmaster badge... And since I'm not in direct violation of any law, you have no power to command me."

Minerva ran, or tripped in this case, into the Hospital Wing, her chest heaving from the exhaustion of having run the entire way. She held up a hand, indicating that, no, she did not wish to be helped and that she would be ready to say something once her breath decided to miraculously return. Obviously running from one side of the school to the other at this time of night was not something her body was built for anymore. She clutched her side and had to lean against the wall for support, closing her eyes slightly as she attempted to steady her breathing.
She slowly opened her eyes again when she had regained control of her body she straightened up and walked, though rather shakily, forwards. "Minister," she said. Having heard his request for Persephone to leave the Hospital Wing, she felt that it was her turn to speak up for the Head of Slytherin. "I do believe that the Headmistress of Hogwarts School still reserves the right to dismiss any members of the staff on school grounds, regardless of what the Minister of Magic himself appears to think."
In her frenzied state, after being pulled out of bed at well past midnight, she thought that it was excusable that her feet were still in her slippers and she only had enough time to pull on a nightgown before making her way to the Hospital Wing. "So I would request for Professor Silverton to remain in the room as it was her who alerted myself about Mr. Potter's nighttime excurision in the first place, not to mention that she probably saved his life."
She cast a concerned look into the direction of Harry's bed, around which Madam Pomfrey was bustling. She became acutely aware of her clothing and nodded politely at Remus, Sirius, Persephone and Severus, before turning to look at Hermione and Ron. "Miss Granger, Mr Weasley," she paused, still a little out of breath. "Would you care to explain how it came to this. Mr Weasley, I think you should take a seat, you are looking quite pale."

Ron could have died. That was the best Hermione had? Oh well, the truth was out now... sort of. Time to deal with the consequences. Professor Silverton went on and revealed she knew exactly what they were trying to do anyway, effectively shutting down any plans Ron had of explaining they had been trying to play a game dad had introduced to him last summer - Russian Roulette, just instead of using a gun, they were going to try and dodge the Whomping Willow... Ok so that wasn't the best excuse in the world. It wasn't even believable, but still worth a shot right? By the time Ron tuned back into the conversation Hermione had taken a seat and was giving him a smile he hadn't thought to see on anyone but a psychotic murdering clown. Quickly getting over the urge to scream like a girl, Ron placed a hand on Hermione's shoulder and gave her his best effort of a reassuring smile. It was more of a grimace, but it was the thought that counts. After that things all started to happen very fast. One after another people flooded into the room, raising the tension levels ever higher. Sirius looked like he could kill. Lupin was just as mad, but he was more of the passive aggressive type. Snape was, well, Snape. Silverton went on and decided to try and piss of Lupin some more. Then Headmistress McGonagall came running in, pausing to recover from her dash, before commandeering the conversation and remarking on how pale Ron was beginning to seriously feel. Nodding mutely and feeling somewhat sick at all that had happened tonight and how close Harry had been to death, Ron plonked down to sit shakily next to Hermione, his hand falling from her shoulder to lay limply on the armrest between them. Not looking up from the incredibly interesting patterns the cracks on the floor made, Ron swallowed before trying to explain. "I dont know most of the story as to why we were trying save Mr potter... Well i do... Sorta... I mean i know he's missing and all, and i know we were going to try and get him back, i just don't know why we were going tonight you see. Ron paused and ran his hand through his hair, stopping halfway so he could hold his head up via his elbow being propped up on the vacant armrest to his right. It was just plain dumb to have Silverton still in the room! Half of what Ron knew he really shouldn't say because she'd probably just go report straight back to the dark lord! That would destroy any chance Harry's plan ever had of working. Just because the Willow took him out tonight doesn't mean that once he's healed he wont try again. Harry really missed James and would do anything to get him back, and, as stupid as it had sounded, the plan he had come up with tonight was probably the best shot they had. So if he said anything in detail about the plan then Harry would probably never forgive him. But if he said nothing, half the adults in here would be out of blood for him letting Harry put his life in danger for no reason. Ron opened his mouth in indecision, glancing up from the cracks in the floor to see a wall of angry and expectant faces before him. Quickly he looked back at the floor and again engrossed himself in the amazing intricacy of the cracks therein. "Hermione can probably explain better." He muttered, scratching his head softly with his fingertips, eyes diligently focused on the crack that looked somewhat like a dog. ((wow, long post ))

Hermione almost gaped at the crowd of people that grew in front of her, momentarily forgetting how many were really back in Hogwarts that cared about Harry, about his father, not including Snape and Persephone, but it was all the more intimidating to see Sirius, Lupin, even Professor McGonagall, staring down at them, and Hermione suddenly wished the chair could somehow swallow her away then face them. It wasn't supposed to be like this, sure they would probably have gotten the death stare, but that should have been after they saved Mr. Potter.
Ron tried to return her grin, but it came out painfully, and after he collapsed onto the chair, he stared carefully at the floor before moving the teacher's attention back unto Hermione. Ron was such an ass.
"Uh..." She started nervously, wringing her fingers until they where white, "Harry was really upset about his father missing, and he was worried sick." Hermione tried to look anywhere but the teachers, staring instead, at McGonagall's slippers, "He was going to go save Mr. Potter, and Ron and I just had to help him, he would have gone by himself either way," she sniffled lightly, "We... snuck out, but when we reached the Whomping Willow Harry got attacked." It sounded stupid, childish, and Hermione almost laughed right then from all the insanity, but she couldn't bring herself to. Taking a deep breath, she said finally, "And then the rest is Persephone came, brought Harry to the Hospital Wing, and now we're here..."

Sirius ignored for a moment what had happened between Persephone and Remus. He didn't care if she was there. It was not as if Order secrets would be so openly discussed, so what could she possibly hear that she wasn't supposed to? Though, it was again an interesting point that Minvera seemed eager to stand up for her. He wondered why... What was it that Persephone had done that made it possible for their headmistress to trust her so? He would think on it later. For now, the only thing that mattered was getting to the bottom of this so that something like this wouldn't happen again.
"So, neither of you thought that maybe the plan was foolish or flat out stupid? I'm surprised at you, Granger. You're usually the voice of reason, but I can see that you let him persuade you into this." He had to force himself to calm down. This was only partly their responsibility. The bulk of it fell on Harry's shoulders...
"We understand that you all miss James, but don't you think that's a best left to the Ministry of Magic or the Order? How did the three of you plan on finding him, rescuing him, and somehow managing to escape without too much incident. You not only allowed Harry to endanger his own life, you let him talk you into endangering your own. It was very stupid, Miss Granger and you should have known better than to go alone with it." Again, he addressed her because he expected her to be the voice of reason.
"That said," he began, his voice softer now. "Thank you for not allowing him to go alone. He could not ask for better friends." Feeling he got what he needed from them, he turned back to Harry and took a seat next to the bed, reaching out to take his hand. "Lily Potter should be here shortly, Professor McGonagall."

What an utter circus this had become. Was this all necessary? Would anybody be so worried if this wasn't Harry Potter? Honestly, he should be treated like any other student. Sure, it made sense for Sirius to be worried. He was the boy's god-father, so reluctantly, Severus excused him of foolish behavior... But Remus? Really? Didn't he have more important things to do than stand around and order other people out of the room. It would seem that Severus would be the only objective voice here, and even as he heard Sirius scold them... he rolled his eyes once the tune changed.
"We are all aware that Granger and Weasley will follow Potter through hell and back. Unfortunately, Hogwarts does not have a clause in the rules that exempts those who were acting on behalf of a friend. Whatever the reason Potter went out, and why Granger and Weasley followed are moot points. The fact of the matter is, they each committed a serious offense."
He stepped forward. "Since it would seem nobody else is prepared to do what should be done, what must be done to ensure order, I will most humbly take it upon myself. Twenty points will be taken away for each student that was out past curfew. That includes Granger, Weasley, Potter, Lunette and Lohenstein. I think that's rather lax all things considered."

Hermione blinked back waves of disappointment as the true reality seemed to hit her, sticking like a rock in her throat that couldn't be swallowed away. Professor Black’s lecture scarring her like hot iron across her face as she turned bright red, Harry just did this so many times Hermione seemed to have simply gotten carried away with it and, truthfully, didn't put up much of a fight against Harry's stupid decision this time. What could they have done that Black and Lupin couldn't do? Offer them selves up as bait only to be killed probably, Hermione thought scathly. What would her parents say?
All sorts of regret tumbled inside Hermione as she stared at her hands, which grasped her knees so tightly her knuckles turned a pearly white. That was a total of 80 points lost for Gryffindor. It was going to be hard to explain that to the rest of the Gryffindors. She glumly wished to be in the dorm, hiding snugly under her bed covers, much less having to face yet another round of the worst lecture you could get, and that was from a mother.
