Katie stood on the bridge and took a deep and bracing breath. The fall air already had the teeniest bit of a chill it it. She loved the smell of Autumn air. It was a garbled mess of smells, crunchy leaves, and crisp nights. She smiled appreciatively at the view from the bridge. The splash of color from the trees made her homesick, what she wouldn't give to have a steaming mug of her mother's hot mulled cider. She considered for a fleeting moment about running back towards the castle and finding a house elf and even went as far as taking two steps towards the castle when she heard footsteps on the bridge behind her.

It was one of those days when you just woke up and wished you had stayed in bed. That was how Oliver felt about it at least. It was incredible how one startling confession could make somebody's entire mood go from good to horrible. He must still be in shock and he was still fighting with himself on how to approach Christopher about it. Oliver was far more forgiving then their Ravenclaw friend and considering the mistake made he was not sure that there would be any forgiveness from that side at all. Could you blame him though. Oliver understood precisely why Christopher would be upset. He was a muggle born wizard and that came with a burden that he never asked for but was placed on him anyway. Nobody ever let him forget about it and now that this had happened he would not put his galleons on any form of understanding in that area.
To take his mind off of things he'd gone down to the green houses to talk with Sprout about one of the plants he'd read about in his text book. Herbology was not his favorite class at all. It was one of his worst but for that reason he worked even harder at it. It wouldn't matter in the years to come but he could at least say after getting out of Hogwarts that he was more than just a jock. He was a star student in addition to being a star athlete. While on the subject of Quidditch he noticed a familiar person standing on the bridge and he smiled for the first time that day.
"How's my favorite chaser doing?" Oliver asked as he walked up behind Katie. "Don't tell Alicia or Angelina I sad that," he added with a lower voice. "I don't think I can take another unexpected quaffle to my head. Johnson's got quite an arm on her." He stood next to her and looked down at the river that was flowing beneath the bridge. "What brings you out here, Katie?"

Katie twirled around happily. If there was one person on the face of this earth that she wanted to share this one moment with it was Oliver. She had wondered what had brought him here on a Sunday afternoon. "Ollie! Good to see ya! Am I really your favorite chaser or are you just saying that to get on my good side?" Katie sometimes felt awkward around the opposite sex. She had fell in line so naturally with Oliver, from the moment that he had sat down next to her in the Great Hall. The two had struck up a conversation about quidditch and she was forever lost. She could smile and laugh easily around him. "I am just up here enjoying the view. It is days like this that makes me miss home. What about you? What are you doing wandering about on such a beautiful day? She looked at him slyly from the corner of her eye. "You know, today is perfect flying weather. But I am sure you aren't up to me flying circles around you like I did last time."

He clapped his hand over his heart and pretended to have been physically wounded by the use of the nickname. His face even contorted to a wince and he stumbled back a few steps. "You're killing me with that name Kates. Seriously." The smile did not exactly drive the serious point home though and he dropped the act and stepped up beside her to look at the view. "Good side? Me? Give me some credit here," he laughed. "I would never lie to you. If you ever found out it would be at least a year before St. Mungo's let me back out."
He could see the draw of the view. "Actually it's not unlike my home either," he said. He wasn't sure if she knew what Torridon looked like, but mountainous and wet pretty much summed it up. "I was just clearing my head," he said deciding to be honest. "A former friend of mine let me down and now I've got to work through how to tell Christopher." He knew Katie knew Christopher seeing how during their free hours the boys were inseparable. So she would also know that Christopher tended to be a bit narrowminded when he took offense to something.
"You did not fly circles around me last time!" he said trying to put on his best offended face while speaking through his laughter. "That's it Bell. We're going to the pitch. Right now."

Katie tried to keep a serious face but she couldn't last more than a few seconds before she busted out laughing. "That is true, I think St Mungos would be the least of your worries. It makes me wonder if Angelina and Alicia and I need to get together and have a meeting on the things Oliver Wood will say for a win.
Her face grew deadly serious. "Okay, I just need to know two things, what's their name and where do I find them? No one messes with my Ollie and lives to tell the tale. What does Christopher have to do with this, anyway? Are you two holding out on me?" Her face showed obvious displeasure of not being in the know about this incident. A slight fear gripped her heart that it might have been a girl and that is why he didn't tell her. Sure, they were as close as any two people could get but she was still a girl and that denied her access to most things in boy world. Not that she minded, it was mostly about farts and wedgies anyway.
"Oh so the fact that I beat you in the race by a good 30 seconds means nothing. Wood, I knew you were crazy but delusional? Do you really want to embarrass yourself yet again? I mean how many cool points will you lose yet again. I am just looking out for your reputation or lack there of." She folded her arms across her chest and <censored>ed an eyebrow.

He laughed along with her glad for some happiness in light of the things that had been going on lately. "Oh. You just need to meet with me in the locker room to know the things Oliver Wood would say for a win. I'm not all that discriminate. And we ARE going to win this year. We've got to if we have any hope of catching up in the House Cup race," he said bitterly thinking about the lead all of the other houses had on them now. He really wanted to be angry about it but he knew if put in the same situation as Potter he'd have gone searching for his father too.
His smiled washed away and he took her hand to lead her to one of the nearby benches. "It's Tammy," he said. "But she didn't do anything that needs an ass kicking for. She did mess with me. She just screwed her own life I guess. I had hopes that she wasn't going to end up like the rest of those snakes in the ground but I was wrong. Lost another one to the pure-blooded cause," he said knowing that Katie would pick up on that. "And it goes without saying that Christopher is going to be livid. I know him well enough to know that he's not going to see this as anything other than a betrayal."
He shook his head. "Well if you had told me we were racing before you got your head start that would have been fair," he pointed out. That and this time he was just going to have to borrow Harry's broom. "And being able to fly circles around a keeper isn't all that impressive you know considering part of my job is to sort of just hover there and guard the hoops."
