Defense Against the Dark Arts will consist of five lessons for first through fourth years.
1st Lesson
An Introduction to Defense Against the Dark Arts. We will cover three basic defensive charms: Expelliarmus, Protego, and Incarcerous.
Homework- 5 questions will be asked about these three spells and also about the lecture. Students will be graded in accordance to the correct number of answers
2nd Lesson
The Madcap, the Kappa, and the Hinkypunk. Students will learn about these three monsters and how to defend themselves against them.
Homework- one question will be asked about each of the monsters we learned about in class. In addition, I will ask the student to read ahead and, in a short paragraph, describe how the Riddikulus charm works.
3rd Lesson
Midterm Practical- The Boggart and the Riddikulus. After we review the Riddikulus (as students should have read enough to be familiar with it) they will face a Boggart.
4th Lesson
Werewolves and Vampires. We will discuss the human and bestial characteristics of both of these humanoid creatures.
Homework- Write an essay either over the werewolf, the vampire, or both. Discuss their features, their habits, and any other fact relevant to the formation of a well written essay. Use examples from class.
5th Lesson
Dark Witches and Wizards. The class will get their first lesson on the human threat. We'll Grindewald, Voldemort and his Death Eaters, and so on.
Take Home Final Exam- Students will choose a dark witch or wizard and write a short, well researched, essay about their subject.
